Vitoss Bone Graft Substitute - Preparation Techniques


Foam Preparation Technique


Step 1:
Fill a syringe with a volume of bone marrow aspirate, blood, or saline equal to the volume of the Vitoss Foam Strip.
Step 2:
Hydrate Vitoss Foam Strip with an ~ 1:1 volume of bone marrow aspirate, blood, or saline.
Step 3:
Vitoss Foam Strip is flexible when wet.
Step 4:
If necessary, then shape, cut, or customize the Vitoss Foam Strip to a desirable form.
Step 5:
Apply Vitoss Foam Strip to the grafting site. Vitoss Foam Strip will soak and hold fluid under compression.

Canister Preparation Technique


Step 1:
Remove both end caps from the Vitoss Canister. Attach the syringe containing bone marrow aspirate, blood, or saline to the Vitoss Canister.
Step 2:
Hold the Vitoss Canister upright and add the desired amount of bone marrow aspirate, blood, or saline (an ~ 1:1 ratio is recomended).
Step 3:
Allow the blood or BMA to coagulate (recomended for 15 minutes). Then unscrew the interlocking front of the syringe cap and attach the push rod.
Step 4:
Turn the push rod 1 and 1/4 turn clockwise (left to right) to expell Vitoss.
Step 5:
Apply the prepared Vitoss. Handling characteristics (pictured) may not be achieved with saline.

Flow Preparation Technique


Step 1:
Cut or break the Vitoss Foam Flow cylinders (pucks) into quarters.
Step 2:
Add 2-2.5cc of bone marrow aspirate, blood, or saline per puck into the syringe.
Step 3:
Insert the dry Vitoss Foam Flow pucks into the bone marrow aspirate, blood, or saline.
Step 4:
Use a Penfield elevator or similar instrument to mix the hydrated pucks within the syringe body, making sure all product is mixed thoroughly.
Step 5:
Apply vitoss Foam Flow to the grafting site.

Pack Preparation Technique


Step 1:
Fill a syringe with a volume of bone marrow aspirate, blood, or saline equal to the volume of the Vitoss Foam Pack.
Step 2:
Hydrate Vitoss Foam Pack with an ~ 1:1 volume of bone marrow aspirate, blood, or saline.
Step 3:
For Vitoss Bioactive Foam Pack, add the bioactive glass component and if needed or desired, you can add up to a 1:1 volume of local bone autograft for either formulation.
Step 4:
Manually knead and shape the Vitoss Foam Pack for about 60 seconds until a putty-like consistency is obtained.
Step 5:
Apply Vitoss Foam Pack to the grafting site.
