Cortoss - Technical Specifications - Chemistry & Characteristics

Chemistry

Reinforcing Components Synthetic ceramic particles
  • Increases direct bonding to bone
  • Improves mechanical strength
Resin Composition 3 difunctional, crosslinked resins delivered as two mix-on-demand pastes
  • A high degree of three-dimensional crosslinking signficantly increases mechanical strength
  • Permits immediate weight bearing
  • Reduces leaching of unreacted components
  • Enhances working time
  • Reduces waste and preparation time

Radiopacity

Outstanding inherent radiopacity, for optimal fluoroscopic imaging as used in minimally invasive procedures

Set Time And Temperature

Set Time
  • Products such as PMMA, with complicated mixing and handling procedures, require extended set times
  • Mix-on demand delivery of Cortoss® facilitates fast, easy handling, negating the need for longer setting times
  • Cortoss® sets (3-5 minutes) in less than half the time of PMMA
  • Cortoss® setting time is temperature-dependant, and decreases as site temperature increases
Thermal Properties
  • Lower exotherm temperature minimizes tissue necrosis
  • The maximum exothermic temperature of Cortoss® is 28% lower than that of PMMA (typically 55-65ºC vs. 90-120ºC respectively)
  • Cortoss® attains peak exotherm for less than 1 minute of the time where as PMMA remains above 51ºC for up to 8 minutes
